World Bank - (2022) Coastal Protection Project Preparation Studies for Beira Mozambique

A significant improvement of the coastal protection scheme is needed to provide sufficient protection for Beira against hazards from sea for decades to come. The improved coastal protection system should not only protect Beira. It should also add value to the spatial quality of the city and stimulate the socio- economic nature development. Cyclone Idai has now provided a stimulus to activate support and resources to implement interventions to strengthen the city’s readiness to mitigate, respond to and recover from the future impacts of natural disasters and climate change.

World Bank - (2021) Study of green infrastructure solutions and disaster evacuation planning and design to mitigate flood risk and strengthen resilience

Research institute Deltares and partners RoyalHaskoningDHVBoschSlabbers 
and Evolutis, performed a comprehensive assessment and pre-feasibility study on urban resilience adaptation strategies for the area. These strategies integrated nature-based solutions and disaster evacuation planning to increase flood resilience and enhance living conditions in low-income neighbourhoods.

Umgeni Water - Lower Thukela Bulk Water Scheme

In October 2020, uMngeni-uThukela Water appointed Royal HaskoningDHV (Pty) Ltd to undertake the Lower uThukela Bulk Water Supply Scheme Phase 3 Feasibility Study. The aim of the project was to undertake a study into the possible extension of the Lower uThukela Bulk Water Supply Scheme Phase 2 to supply the King Cetshwayo District Municipality.

1330 MW Braamhoek Pumped Storage Scheme- Eskom

The development of a 1330 MW Pumped storage scheme at Braamhoek within the Drakensberg mountain range is to comprise 4 No.334 MW sets in an underground power house including all Auxiliary Mechanical and Electrical Plant, transformers, switchgear, control equipment, switch yard equipment, head race tunnel with intake and surge shaft, tail race tunnel with surge shaft and outfall control, access and service tunnels, upper and lower dams and all main roads, access roads, and infrastructure

Sedgefield Desalination Plan Case Study

An innovative, demand based
solution to solve the water supply crisis to
Sedgefield which is both economical and took weeks, rather than years,  was implemented, a desalination plant had to be erected within severe time and financial constraints.

KwaDabeka Pumpstation Transformer Relocation 

This project involved the relocation of KwaDabeka pump station's
supply transformer at Durban Heights Water Works.

Umlaas Road and Richmond Bulk Water
Supply Scheme

Increasing water demands caused by rapid urbanization in the Durban,
Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas required duplication of parts
of the existing 24 km long, DN 800 gravity pipeline between World’s
View and Umlaas Road (the so-called ’61 pipeline from Midmar Dam).

Hartebeesfontein Wastewater Treatment Works

Hartebeesfontein Wastewater Treatment Works in Gauteng processes effluent water from households in nearby Kempton
Park as well as from industrial sites in Spartan and Isando. 

Extension of Welgedacht Wastewater
Treatmant Works

Royal HaskoningDHV was appointed for the design and construction
supervision of a complete new 50,000 m³/d plant to the Welgedacht
Water Care Works. This project will increase the capacity to 85,000 m³/
day of the total plant, discharging directly into the Blesbokspruit.

Mhlathuze Water SCADA and Telemetry System Implementation Phase 1 

This project involves the implementation of the first roll-out phase of a
SCADA and Telemetry systemfor the Mhlathuze Water Treatment Plant

Upgrade and Extension of Klipdrift Water Treatment Works

The project was for the refurbishment and upgrade of the Klipdrift
WTW from 18 Ml/d to 42 Ml/d.
